About the event
An Orange from Jaffa follows the story of Mohammed, a young Palestinian with a temporary Polish permit, as he searches for a taxi to take him through an Israeli checkpoint to reunite with his mother. After being turned away by several drivers, Farouk agrees to help, unaware that Mohammed has already attempted and failed to cross from another checkpoint.Â
Through the intimate conversations between the two Palestinian men confined to a car, the film illustrates the everyday disruptions and the immobility Palestinians face when navigating military checkpoints—systems deliberately designed to divide people into "us" and "them." It also traces how the occupation and apartheid regime can, at times, turn Palestinians against each other. Despite all challenges, hope and joy find their way through, sometimes embodied in the mundane yet symbolic presence of an orange—a powerful reminder of home, filled with longing and a sense of belonging.
